So recently, like Brie has mentioned, a lot of things have been going on in my life lately. That’s why I’ve been a little MIA, and I am terribly sorry about that. Here’s a little recap for you guys:
- I won’t be going to college this semester for personal reasons, but I’m not too concerned seeing as how I only had 2 classes and one was online.
- I have a new second job! As well as being a banquet server for the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis, I am also an employee at the Whole Foods Market in town I love the work there. The people are so nice and outgoing and I’m learning so many great things about the food!
- You might be wondering why I went and got a second job. Well it turns out, I will be moving out of the house in October, and I could really use the extra cash. Once I’m out of the house for good, I’ll be on my own 100% when it comes to finances. This is another reason why I am taking a break from school. I need to spend more time working to pay for the house that I’ll be moving to in Broad Ripple.
So that’s pretty much it. I’ve been really busy lately but I promise I will be blogging more often for the lovely people who read this.
Neither I nor Hannah have posted in a while, so here’s a recap on our life:
First off, things ar about to get a lot more exciting with school starting up for me. I’ll be reconnected with friends, parties, I’m planning on rushing, and most of all, I’m starting a new major and a whole new set of courses- in other words, my work load is going to become slightly less stressful.
On the otherhand, poop-shit-fuck has happened to Hannah and she won’t be able to go school this semester. I wish her the most sincere help in over coming this fuck-shit-poop. I love her so much. She is my best friend and the one person who’s always thee for me, and whatever the issue may be, I just hope she gets to come back and be on track for school soon.
[Now that I'm thinking of it, she won't be able to travel to Cali with me for an internship. DAMN THE TORPEDOS! Gahh!]
But on a lighter note… I WENT SHOPPING!!! YAYAAY!!! Later,I’ll post photos of the outfits and disect where you can buy them and the price of each garment, because let’s face it; nothing is more obnoxious when you see something you like but you can never find where the heck someone bought it.
So, that’s pretty much it. Not as exciting as you ould think, but hey, we’ll get a little bit more exciting soon, so yeah. Look for my new outfits and what not.
So this weekend was a blast! We left for Ohio State at about 3pm Saturday and got there around 5:30. Our friends were so excited to see us! They all live in this house on the outskirts of the campus. They immediately wanted to show us around town and get some dinner with us which we were very happy about (we were starved after the long drive!). We got back to the house and watched TV for a while and then some of their other friends heard that the mystery Bonnaroo girls had come into town, so they stopped in to meet us and hang out. We spent a lot of time on the front porch at night jamming and listening to great music. I love how they were all extremely down to earth, good people. Everyone was very genuine and kind and those are the kinds of people I like meeting.
This is what happens when you pull me aside and ask for a funny picture! Hahaha this is Geof (pronounced Jeff), one of our friends we met at Bonnaroo. We all thought his shirt was hilarious.
We left at about 11:3o Sunday morning and made many stops on the way back this time, so we ended up being home at like 3pm. Brie and I laughed about our crazy spontaneous trip the whole way home. We are already making plans for them to come to Indy to visit us! I told them about VIP tickets I have for Life In Color on November 2nd and they said that they would really like to go. They also want to see our college campuses and our hometowns. I hope your weekend was as great as ours!
One band I’ve been obsessed with for about a year now is Purity Ring. They are an electronic band from Canada whose music is very unique. Her wispy, innocent, child-like voice is a sharp contrast to the dark, sometimes gory lyrics provided in the songs and the beats are great for dancing to. They remind me of a cool combination of The Knife and Grimes.
I got Brie into their music not too long ago and we rocked out so hard to their show at Bonnaroo. Their performance is very trippy, with these lights flashing everywhere and her standing there holding a lamp that she shines on herself. She’ll also walk over to a giant bass drum and hit it with all of her little might at times while he plays on these light-up orbs. In all honesty, we couldn’t really see much at first because of how packed the tent was, but we worked our way to a decent spot eventually and were completely enamored by the terrifying beauty of everything. I 100% recommend seeing them live if you have the chance.
I have something to confess to everyone…
I’ve been living this lifestyle for about 2 years now. I also experimented with raw-veganism a few times here and there because the health benefits are unreal, but I always end up coming back to a regular vegan diet.
Anyway, I studied dietetics and hospitality & food management at Ball State for a year before transferring to IUPUI to study events management, and that meant lots of cooking classes. It’s a good thing cooking is one of my passions, because I ended up being paid to live with my parents as long as I cooked healthy food for them. I love it! I’m always searching the internet and pinterest for new recipes and most of the time, my parents can not believe that what I make for them is vegan. Every once in a while, they will go buy some chicken to throw into the dish for themselves, but I still feel proud that I served them something very healthy.
As a vegan, I find myself not knowing what to do for breakfast very often, because I can’t have your typical eggs/bacon/pancakes/whatever, or I will sleep in and miss breakfast altogether (oops). But I found this recipe for overnight oats here on the Free People blog, and I had to try it. I made a few tweaks here and there to fit what I already had in my fridge, but it still turned out deliciously!
1 Ball mason jar
1 cup of almond milk
1/2 cup of oats
1 medium banana
1 cup of berries (I used strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries)
1 tbsp chia seeds
You just mix it all together in the jar and seal it tightly and put it in the fridge overnight! I’ve never really used chia seeds in anything before so I was a little skeptical at first about using them or leaving them out, but I loved them. It gave me a great reason to wake up in time for breakfast this morning.
If you like this, I recommend visiting the Free People blog to find more great gluten-free or vegan recipes!
I’m sitting in my favorite coffee shop, planning dinner and keeping cool in this crazy humidity. It’s called Strange Brew and if you ever find yourself looking for a cool place to be on the south side of Indianapolis, this is it. I usually keep it simple and order a black coffee, iced or hot, because the blends they use are so flavorful in themselves. Don’t get me wrong, the fancy mochas and espressos they have here are to die for. I recommend trying the black coffee, but also tasting other things like the Blonde Bombshell, Almond Joe, Black Forest, or Peanut Butter Cup. If you aren’t really a coffee person, they have excellent chai lattes and smoothies. They also serve soups, sandwiches, wraps, and plenty delicious bakery items!
Their decor is wild but homey. They have a huge fish tank in the middle of the shop that acts as a barrier between two seating areas. You can almost always find a comfy spot on a couch or if you prefer, there are tables and chairs inside and out. The walls are covered with paintings by local artists and there are books and magazines galore for your reading pleasure!
This isn't a painting. I took this in Texas a couple summers ago and I thought it seemed magical.
So I’m not going to lie to you, Brie and I haven’t really seen each other in over a week, and it’s killing me!! But no worries we will be taking a road trip to Columbus, OH this weekend to visit some friends we made at Bonnaroo this year! We will be staying Friday and Saturday night and I know I couldn’t be more excited to be reunited with these amazing people.
Hahaha we all look really messy, but that concert was packed! This is Andrew, me, Brie, and Hayden on the first night we met them. We were exiting the Purity Ring show at The Other Tent and we hadn’t really figured out where all of the stages were, so we needed to ask someone where Alt-J was going to be. Brie had the brilliant idea to ask these two lovely boys, who, to my utter shock and surprise, had no idea who Alt-J was. So I revised the question by asking if they knew where Japandroids were playing (who they thankfully knew well), since it was the same stage, and made them come with us. We didn’t have much trouble making our way to the pit since everyone behind us practically pushed us there! They ended up loving Alt-J and we all hung out as a group the rest of the weekend!
Some other guys we will be visiting that were a part of the same group include Jeff (top) and Sam (bottom), two extremely funny guys. Jeff has some of the craziest dance moves I’ve ever seen, and Sam (or Sammy-G, as they called him) can always make you laugh. I’m so happy we get to see them again!
We will post more about Bonnaroo and the music we saw later!
